JOBS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND WHAT EMPLOYERS EXPECT

Now that you are in college it means you are probably 18 years old and most employers will consider you an adult. Gone are the days where you can show up for an interview wearing jeans and a T-shirt just because you are a kid. Of course this does depend somewhat on the type of job you are interviewing for and some jobs the jeans attire might still be fine.

Generally though, if you are trying to find jobs for college students, you must take your job hunting and interviewing skills to the next level. If you have made it to college, prospective employers will expect a certain level of professionalism and demeanor from you. After all, not everyone makes it to college so you have to act the part.

By the time you get to college, it is a great idea to have put together a resume. It is not absolutely necessary and some jobs would not require one but now is the time to start planning for the rest of your life and a resume is a must. Most college students have some job experience and enough other things to make a nice resume that will make a good impression when you hand it to your interviewer. You might call ahead and find out whether the company would rather have you email them a copy or whether just bringing it to the interview is fine.

College students, depending on their abilities and experiences, are capable of obtaining a wide range of jobs. Many will get some part time job involving a restaurant or a retail establishment while others will go for jobs that might require specific abilities. Some students will go after jobs that are more demanding and higher paying than the usual waiter or waitress job. Additionally it is not unheard of for some students to even have to get two jobs to make ends meet.

Depending on the type of job you are going for and how much it pays will help determine what you need do do to prepare for, and do well in the job interview. Obviously, the higher paying the job is, the more requirements there will be and the more important it will be for you to present yourself as qualified. Someone who is interviewing at an office for a part time job will have to have more qualifications than someone trying to get a job as a dish washer.

Jobs for college students are harder to get now because of the economy just like all jobs are in the workplace. Because jobs are so scarce, it is advisable for you to dress well and do your absolute best in any job interview. Employers have a lot of candidates to hire from right now so it only makes sense that they are going to choose the best no matter what type of job it is. This means you are going to have to put your best foot forward in all your interviews and try not to get discouraged if you don’t get hired. Good luck in your college job hunt!
