POKER JOBS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

OK, right off the bat, I think it should be said that this is NOT a good idea. Trying to turn poker into a job sounds real cool but in reality, the chance of you failing is quite big.

The poker boom has been going on for some time now and nowhere is it bigger than on college campuses. College students have tons of time to burn and we all no that you can now find a poker game quite easily anywhere you look, especially in the dorms or in frat houses. Many college students are addicted to playing online and have dreams of paying for college and even leaving college for poker.

There are indeed many college students turned famous poker pro’s and the dream of becoming another Shannon Shorr or Jeff Madsen lives within all of us. But for each successful example like that, how many have failed trying? How many students have lost everything they have just because they were addicted and determined to try? Finally, how many college student’s lives have been ruined by poker?

Jobs for college students can be many things but poker should NOT be one of them. Yes, you might be able to earn some extra cash along the way if you are good but the chance of you making a full time living or paying off your college bills playing poker is slim. The fact is that most of you who try will fail because only the best survive. Are you truly one of the best?

The lure of poker along with the accessibility of it is tremendous for college students. Playing online is easy and fun but you can lose your shirt if you don’t know what you are doing. It is so easy to get swept up in the excitement and before you know it you are busted. Then what do you do? Do you really want to have to call your parents and beg for more money because you lost it all in a poker game?

How many students play poker but are too scared to tell their parents? I bet a lot of college poker players fit into that category. I also bet that 8 to 9 out of ten are losers and still think they are good and want to do it full time. Poker jobs are not really jobs by any stretch of the imagination and it is a dangerous undertaking unless you know exactly what you are doing and have tremendous discipline. There is no “job” like poker where you can come home at the end of the day having lost all your money instead of making money. That is why poker is not a winning idea for most students.

Poker is great fun but only one in a hundred can truly make a living at it. Is that really you? Seriously? Poker jobs for college students is just a bad idea and you should study hard, graduate, and get a real job. Playing poker recreationally is fine and you might even learn to get better. But as a job, poker sucks!
