Applying for student aid is never a fun process but the bottom line is that if you want or need money for college, you have go through all sorts of red tape if you want a chance to get government grants or loans.

If you are looking for jobs for college students, the chances are you also have some sort of a financial aid package. Student financial aid usually consists of a package of one to three types of aid. The first part can be grant money. A grant is free money that you do not have to pay back. Because it is free money, it is the most difficult to get. For instance, back to school grants and grants for moms are in high demand right now.

Another part of your package can be student loans. Student financial aid loans differ from regular bank loans because you get to borrow the money at a discounted rate. Where a regular loan may cost you 5% to borrow a thousand dollars, a student load many cost you only 3% to borrow the same amount of money.

The lower percentage rate of the loan is one part of the student loan that is nice. The other part is that student financial aid loans through the government let you defer your payments as long as you are taking a full load in school. Unlike normal loans that you must begin paying back as soon as get them, these loans do not have to begin being paid back until you finish school. This is called deferment. Also if you are in school with this type of loan, you can have your payments deferred for up to a maximum of 6 months after graduation. This gives you time to find a job before your loan payments begin.

Most of a financial aid packet is comprised of a student loan. The last is work-study and that is neither a loan nor free money. It means you have the ability to earn up to a certain amount during the school year working in a work-study job. So, what is the benefit of this offering you may ask, because you could get a job anywhere?

Many jobs that are available at a college or university are only available for students who have a work study package. That means if you do not have work study, you can’t apply for the job or will not get the job unless no one else with work study applies for it. As many students do have work study, the chances are that that type of job will only go to someone with it.

This work study option gives you job opportunities that most other students will not have available to them and it gives you an advantage in the job hunt. So, a student financial aid package may look something like this: a student is awarded $7,000 in student aid which consists of $1,000 in grant money, $4000 in loans at a set percentage, and $2,000 in work study for a total of $7000 in financial aid. Remember just because you apply for student aid does not mean you will get it. It also does not mean you will get aid in all three areas. Good luck applying for student aid and getting a job.

Everyone is looking for jobs for college students. Many have been looking all year and others may be just starting hoping to find something for this summer. Either way, it is quite apparent that getting a job right now is a big challenge.

You will most likely have to interview to get any type of a job, whether it be an hourly part time job or something higher paying and more permanent. There are more people in all age groups of society than there are jobs right now so the competition is high and the ball is really in the employer’s court. They have the luxury of choosing the best and you the job seeker has to do the best you can to stand out from all the other applicants.

When you interview for any job there is one thing you must make sure you DON”T do. That is, to come across as bitter, frustrated, angry, or any other adjective that might show that you are upset with how hard it is to find work.

Many of you have been looking for a long time and been through many interviews. It is getting old to never be called back or to not get any hint that you are getting closer to a job. The more interviews you do and the more failures you have, it becomes easy to let your frustrations show. This is NOT something any interviewer wants to see and it shows your character in a negative way. Even though it is perfectly understandable to be upset and frustrated, you just don’t want to let that be known in an interview.

Keeping upbeat and hopeful is a trick in an of itself in this job market. Good jobs for college graduates are damn hard to find and after 4 or more years of studying and working hard for that degree, it is a big letdown to seemingly not get any reward. It is tough for all students looking for jobs but if you let it get to you, it will show in an interview and that will be an automatic strike against you.

Put yourself in a recruiter’s position: would you hire a college student who is negative and appears upset or would you hire someone who acts as though this is the first interview and they are ready to get going on the job if hired. Interviewers and recruiters can tell if you are upbeat and positive and they will probably only choose those that are. So, if it seems like forever since you started looking for a job, take a look at the things you say in an interview and your body language. Perhaps you need to change some of those right away to give yourself a better chance.

One of the reasons jobs for college students are in such demand is because of the high price of tuition. College tuition has spiraled out of control over the last 20 years and it is a shame for those young adults now dealing with having to pay those inflated costs. Almost all students going to college need a job and they need one now!

Unfortunately, President Obama is not going to do anything to directly combat the problem like lowering those costs. Instead, he has just signed the new student loan bill that will give more government control to the bureaucrats in Washington D.C..

When in our nation’s 200+ year history has a good thing happened when the government took control? The post office is losing millions of dollars a year and thinking of doing away with Saturday deliveries to compete with it’s private sector competitors like FedEx and UPS. Social Security has long been bankrupt as there is more money going out to Baby Boomers than coming in. Additionally the politicians have “borrowed” all the money in the Social Security coffers to pay for their pet projects and there is nothing left. And then there is Medicare and Medicaid where any senior citizen will tell you it is hard to find doctors that will accept either of the two because they don’t pay the doctors enough.

Any reasonably smart person can realize that the government fails in most everything it takes on. So now we are going to have the new Obama student loans bill (which won’t change anything till 2014) that will take loans out of the private sector and put them under the jurisdiction of the federal government. He says the government can loan money to students at a lower rate than the banks and lending institutions do now.

But that would mean that the government is deciding who does and does not qualify for a student loan. Are we going to have quotas that have to be met? Is your child going to be denied a loan because of their skin color or because they come from parents who have too high an income? Is this the road we really want to go down?

There may be some good things that come out of this bill like the expansion of Pell grants and it will make student loans easier to repay in some cases. However, the real problem for most students is the ridiculously high cost of tuition, books, and room and board. It costs an arm and a leg to go to college and this bill does nothing to change that. It looks like the availability of jobs for college students will continue to be the determining factor of whether many students can afford to pay for a college degree. They need work during the school year and over the summers as well which means they need to be working year round. Whatever happened to those good years of young adults going to college and having fun learning and socializing? It looks like those times are gone for good.

You probably know that jobs are at a premium right now. If you are in college, you are probably concerned that when you graduate, there will continue to be a shortage of jobs. Here you are, spending all your money and time to get that degree, and if there aren’t any jobs on the other side then what is the use?

If you can, you should try to get a college job that you can work part time (or full time) that may turn into a full time job when you graduate. In other words, rather than working at the college library, rec center bowling alley, or some other on campus job, you might try to find something that can turn into a real job after you graduate.

While you are in college, you can get jobs that are part time in the field you are studying. If you are able to get one of these, the management can make a determination whether they like you. When it does come time to graduate, you will already have your foot in the door and have a much better chance of getting hired than you would right off the street.

It used to be that jobs for college students could be anything that paid the bills and they still can be. However, with this economy so awful right now you need to do things a little differently and plan ahead more than you would if these were normal times. Rather than get the easy job waiting tables, the college student who is really concerned about his or her future might make the sacrifice and look for a job that is more demanding.

Now, there is no guarantee that one of these “better” jobs can be found and you might have to take a part time job just to pay the bills while you keep looking for that better job. Being in college and looking out at the future is not as fun as it was just 5 short years ago. Everyone is hurting financially and the college students that do a better job of planning ahead may still come out OK.

Every college students financial position is different. Some students get money from their parents to pay for schooling and everything else too. Some might be on academic or athletic scholarships. Others might be paying some of their bills and getting some help from their parents. Still others are paying for the whole thing out of their pockets themselves.

One thing is for sure though and that is that college keeps getting more expensive every year! With that rise in costs, jobs become more and more important for students. These last couple years have been very hard on university students as jobs just haven’t been as plentiful as they have been in years past.

With tuition costs so high, one of the options to help make payments is to work full time. This is of course if you can find a job in the first place. Working full time (or at least around 40 hours per week) is something that few college students have had to do in years past. Now though, it might be more of a necessity than a choice.

Working full time while you go to college is not the optimum situation because it leaves a student with too little time to study and have fun. Attending college is a full time job in itself and when you add on the stress and time constraints of a real full time job as well, you have a situation where the student might be stretching themselves too thin. With college costs so out of control though, many students don’t have any alternative other than to work as much as they can.

Jobs for college students should be part time jobs in a perfect world. The balance between classes, studying, having fun, and working part time gives a student the best environment to do well at all things. When you add in too much work you have to take away time from the other areas that are important too. Right now though, it is unfortunate that so many college students have to struggle daily to make ends meet. Working full time for these kids is something they have to do just to stay at school.

It used to be that college was accepted as the preferred choice for any and every young person. If you want to succeed in life, college was a must everyone said. Have you ever heard the saying “they can never take your education away from you”?

Well it seems things may have changed in the last 15 to 20 years as the cost of a good college (and all colleges) has gone through the roof. If you want to read a nightmare story about a girl with over $200,000 in college loans you can take a look at this article here.

The question must be asked at what point does a college education actually become counterproductive and actually a bad thing? That girl may never pay off those loans and she may be in debt for the rest of her life with a degree that won’t make her much money even if she does decide to pursue a job in that field. Being in debt is bad no matter what kind of debt it is and that is the problem with our economy and country right now: we are all in debt!

The reason jobs for college students are so hard to find is because the economy is crumbling. Our United States government is in more debt than ever before and it is effecting all facets of business with no end in sight.

President Obama has proposed taking the student loan system out of the hands of private industry and having all loans go through the government. His reasoning is that the government can give students a lower interest rate than private companies and thus make it easier for them to pay off their loans. However, that does nothing for the absolutely out of control prices of a college education nowadays.

Since when is worth it to pay upwards of $100,000 just to get a degree? All that money just to get a degree that you may never use and then be released into a world where there are no jobs? Students used to be able to get a college job and be able to work their way though college and pay everything off in a year or two. Now, if you can get a job in college, you are probably only covering room and board and not able to make any dent into the loan itself. That loan will have to wait until you graduate and get a job (if you can get one) and it may take ten, twenty, or even thirty years to pay off.

College costs HAVE to come down and they have to come down now. If we want to have the younger generations be competitive with the rest of the world, college has to be affordable. Right now it is no where near affordable and that has to change.

If you have just graduated college or are going to graduate soon, you will be hoping to find a good job. Having put the money and time in to get a college degree, you might want to find something that is a step above an entry level position.

The bad news in 2010 is that more so than ever before, good advice might be to take any job you are offered rather than hold out for something better. College students that are graduating anytime soon are going to have a very big decision to make: what type of a job are they willing to take and how low are they willing to go on the job ladder?

If you were born 20 or 30 years ago, the situation might have been different and a college graduate might have been able to take a very nice job right out of college. Of course it depends on what field you are in and that might even be possible today for some disciplines. However, for the majority of students, just graduating with a degree does not in any way guarantee a job.

That is why you have to make a decision on whether you are willing to take some entry level job that you may not really want or hold out and gamble for something better. Once you graduate college, your bills will continue to pile on as you will need to pay for an apartment, food, healthcare, clothes, recreation expenses, and all other costs including perhaps that college loan. If your parents where helping you out financially during college they most likely will end that help once you graduate.

This means that you will need more money than ever and holding out for better jobs in this economy might be foolish. Jobs for college students and graduates are in higher demand than they have ever been in recent memory and much harder to find. Because of that, if you are lucky and can get an entry level job somewhere it might be the best choice to take it even if it is not your dream job. Taking that job will allow you to pay the bills and bide your time until you can get something you really do want!

Jobs for college graduates may be harder to get than any time in recent memory if you are to believe this story from The New York Times. It seems there is has been a steady deterioration in almost every aspect of our economy and this means jobs are going to be hard to get for years.

One of the things that is impacting everyone in the United States is the continued outsourcing to different countries of jobs due to cheaper labor costs. Higher and higher taxes here makes is harder for companies to hire American workers when they can get the same jobs done for much less overseas. The Obama administration is continuing down the road of “taxing the rich” as well as high taxes for companies and it seems he just doesn’t understand that higher taxes mean less jobs.

People of all ages and all incomes are now finding themselves out of work and this makes the prospect of finding jobs for college students one that is extremely difficult and unenviable. If you are graduating this year after four or more hard years of studying, the very real possibility that you won’t be able to find a job is one that is extremely troublesome.

At this point, it may be wise to take a job after graduation that you might not think you want just so you have a job. It is always easier to find a job if you have a job it seems, and being hired for almost anything seems like a victory in today’s economy. If you hold out for one of the jobs you really want, you may be going a very long time unemployed.

With the economy doing so poorly and with no end in site, you need to understand that any job is a good job right now. You mustn’t let your ego or your desires overpower good common sense that tells you to take a job even if it is not the perfect one for you. There will always be time later to try and get a better job but getting that first job out of college is always the hardest. And this year looks like it will be harder than ever so take what you can get and be thankful for it.

If you have made it to college we can assume one thing about you: that you are smart. This means you are going to be looking for a job after graduating and it won’t be a job flipping burgers. College graduates need a resume to get most jobs that are worth having so you need to set out and figure out how to put one together.

What I am proposing here though is something that couldn’t happen 10 years ago and you are lucky you live in a time when it is. The Internet affords you the opportunity of getting your own domain for a reasonable yearly fee and building your own site and resume for all to see. The Internet has obviously passed all the tests and we know that it is here to stay. Right now, all businesses should have an online presence and so should you.

Whether you decide to buy a domain that has your name in it or some other term is up to you but you now have the ability to showcase your skills and show the world what you are about with your own site online. Most domains now cost under $10.00 per year and you can get good affordable hosting at Hostgator for as low as $4.95 a month. It used to be that both the cost of domains and the hosting were much higher than the prices today, but now having a website is affordable for most everyone.

There are many things you can do with your own website that will help you get a job. You can easily install a Wordpress blog template and then use your blog as a resume or a place where anyone can go to find out about you. Students who want to become writers can showcase their writing. Students who want to get involved with politics can express their political opinions. Engineers can talk about what they are learning and any ideas they might have about the future of their field.

The important thing is to keep your website very professional and have it be a place where anyone, including prospective employers, can go to find out more about you. The fact that you have your own website will alone be enough to impress many people. You can decide exactly what type of a blog / website you want: you might prefer just a one page site that lists your jobs and qualifications or you might prefer a blog that you update periodically with your thoughts. The great thing about a blog is that it can have many pages and serve as an online resume as well as a place you can express your thoughts.

The one thing you don’t want to do with a site like this is to veer off course and start putting things that are not relevant to your career choice(s). If you want a website where you talk about how great you are at the latest Nintendo game or how much beer you drank last night, you should get a totally separate website for that. Your professional blog should maintain professionalism at all times and the writing on it should be the best you can do.

Having your own online resume blog is something that college students should do right from the outset. Jobs for college students are going to be hard to find and it looks like things aren’t going to change for a long time. By having your own online job resume, you will be showing your prospective employers that you are a serious candidate for all the jobs you apply to.
